WHF Welcomes Food Corps' New Director of Development - Breakfast

November 11th, 2016

Letter from Tyler Driscoll | FoodCorps, CT Development Director |

Some words from Tyler about the incredible work and mission of Food Corps:
In November, a progressive service member in a conservative community reflected on a school garden work party she hosted with parents after the election: "It was good to look people in the eyes and remember what we share, and the good work to be done together." By standing shoulder to shoulder in the simple but urgent work of nourishing our children—especially those of greatest need—we have an opportunity to move beyond our differences and find our shared humanity.  As our country looks for its next moves, breaking ground and breaking bread are part of what will heal our divides and bring us all together toward a common purpose.

At FoodCorps, we stand more committed than ever to the principles of social and racial justice that guide every aspect of our approach. Low-income children, children of color, and immigrant children face far too many barriers to fulfilling their potential, and after the heated rhetoric of the Presidential campaign, we have rededicated ourselves to recruiting local leaders from within the communities and populations we serve, encouraging our corps members to step up as caring adults in the lives of vulnerable kids, and fostering school environments that are not just healthy, but safe, affirming, and inclusive.
